Well, all the kids were insistent that we all wish our mom's, Happy Mother's Day!
Saturday the weather was a real mix - light breeze going to the mid-teens; sun giving way to rain and back to a beautiful sunny day at the Naval Academy. But the kids did okay, managing to hold their position midfleet.
The teams we're racing against have deep talent and very strong FJ and 420 racers. The most noticeable difference is at the starting line - the top racers "shift gears" very quickly and accelerate off the line. NT sailors, tended to lose their position on the first line and slip to the second. Staying on the first line is a skill they need to work on and which will become critical as they all get more experience.
Overall, and despite some disappointing races, their spirits are high; we had a great dinner in Annapolis last night (at some surf-and-turf restaurant.) Then the sailors walked around and were back in their rooms by 2200 hrs, east coast time.
I apologize for the lack of more frequent updates yesterday - the Naval Center didn't have wi-fi so I'm publishing off my Blackberry. But, we'll figure something out.
For more frequent race info, you can also check the USNA website: http://issanationals.blogspot.com/
You can also send the sailors messages which the staff will publish every hour!
Again, Happy Mother's Day t
