The New Trier Sailing Team was well represented at the 2009 US SAILING Youth Championships. The 2009 co-captains competed on Long Island Sound near Greenwich, Connecticut. Those sailors who do not turn 20 years of age during the 2009 calendar year were eligble to compete. The Trevians were represented by Stephanie Hudson in Club 420s and Drew Shea in Laser Radials. Other familiar faces included Loyola's Alex Post and Lake Forest's Will Haeger and Will Howard. Indian Harbor Yacht Club hosted this year's championship. The regatta was sailed between June 26 and June 30.
After eleven races over five days of competition, former NT co-captain Stephanie Hudson, with crew Rebecca King of California Yacht Club, won the U.S. Sailing's 2009 U.S. Youth Sailing Championship in the Club 420 division. " According to th
e US SAILING press release, “the U.S. Youth Sailing Championship is the pinnacle of youth sailing competition in the United States. The country’s top single- and double handed young sailors, both girls and boys, ranging from 13 to 19 years of age raced for four prestigious trophies from Friday, June 26 through Tuesday, June 30. US SAILING selected this field of sailors from across the country, including the U.S. Virgin Islands, based on their sailing resumes and performance at regional, national, and international competitions.” With their win, the ladies were presented with Gold medals and the Manton D. Scott Memorial Trophy as the nation’s double handed youth champions. During the month of July, the trophy will be on display at the Chicago Yacht Club while Stephanie competes in Greece at the 470 Jr World Championship.

Elsewhere, New Trier's John MacAdam took home the gold by placing first with skipper Will Holz at the Upper Midwest Junior Olympics in the Club 420 division. Sailed on the waters of Wayzata Bay on Lake Minnetonka, Cole Rice was also victorious, winning the gold medal in the Laser Radial. Go Trevians!
